If Jay Z claims to be real why didn't he retaliate?

Years ago when Big Pun hit Jay Z in the head with a bottle at Jimmy's in The Bronx why didn't Jay Z retaliate if he's REAL as he claims???? He fled the scene after being bust upside the head with a bottle by Pun after they argued.
